Are you a vegetarian? Searching for pure veg food joint in Bangalore. Then you should try Mast Kalandar, A perfect place to get home made north Indian food. Mast kalandar is a local Bangalore food chain which is famous for its vegetarian pocket friendly combo meals. A favorite place for office goers for lunch.
As Mast kalandar, Electronic city phase 1 is near to my place so once in two weeks I love to go there despite of having such a poor service. The food they serve taste similar what is made at home and only this thing made me to go there again and again even if every order you place there takes atleast 20 to 30 minutes to get it served on your table.
How it all started
We went on a weekend and after placing the order we were expecting a delay of 40 minutes so we went out for some grocery shopping.We came back after 30 minutes and guess what we were actually right the order was still not prepared. As we were use to there poor service, we sat and after around 20 minutes(Total 30+ 20 = 50 minutes) our orders were served.
What we had there
We found a new addition to its menu that was celebration thali which had three puri , dal paneer sabzi, pappdi chat and some other stuff so we thought of ordering it but as usual it was one of the item from its menu which was unavailable at that moment. So we ordered a India Maha thali, Baingan bharta combo and Rajma rice combo.
The India Maha thali was as usual having black daal, kadai paneer, Aloo mutter subzi , Two laccha parantha, salad, mutter pulav, raita and Gulab Jamun. After having that one meal you cannot expect anything else for the day. All items were awesome similar to what is prepared at home. The dishes had a pure flavor which I liked the most. Gulab jamuns are to die for, Loved It.
My friends ordered rajma chawal and baingan bharta combo. The combo was nice. A perfect balance of all spices. The chapati served were exactly according to its name Halka-Phulka. Only the Yellow dal served was not that much promising, it was like served uncooked. Rajma were red, hot and spicy
I saw many people ordering paneer bhurji combo which also looked promising. I will definitely try those next time.
Ambiance and Location
Located opposite to ajmera infinity flats and adjacent to Nilgiris super market. You will not have any problem searching it. Ambiance is also nice. You will find colorful walls and slogan related to food and service written over it. Sitting area is big enough to accommodate 50 to 80 people. Table were not that clean that you expect from a chained restaurant.
Staff and Services
As explained above, if you have ample amount of time and able to control hunger then definitely go to the place else you will keep asking the servers out there “Bhaiya, how much time will it take” ;)
